How We Protect Your Data
Scope: Cell Planner Desktop
Last Updated: March 1, 2026
1. Local-First by Default
Cell Planner follows a local-first model. Daily edits happen on your device and do not require continuous internet access.
Unlike multi-file collaboration tools, Cell Planner keeps your experiment workspace as one continuous working set. You do not need frequent Save/Save As operations; the app persists state automatically.
- Lower manual save overhead
- Faster write path and smoother interaction
- Lower risk of data loss on unexpected exit
2. Backup Policy
a. Automatic backups
The app creates automatic backups at these checkpoints:
- When you exit the app (Auto - On Exit)
- Before account switch when you choose to keep cloud data (Auto - Before account switch)
- Before loading any backup (Auto - Before load backup)
- Every 30 minutes after detected editing activity (Auto)
Automatic backups are capped at 30 entries. The app prunes older and highly redundant snapshots while preserving practical rollback points.
b. Manual backups
You can create manual backups at any time and name them. We recommend using manual backups at key milestones.
Backup preview
Backup details include summary counts such as Projects, Tasks, Notes, Used Cells, Done Cells, Pictures, and size to help you identify the target snapshot quickly.
3. Cloud Sync Safety
We provide cloud storage for cross-device access under the same account, with no cloud storage quota limits.
To reduce the risk of accidental data overwrite, the app will:
- When cloud data is detected as modified from another device, prompt you to choose whether to keep local or keep cloud data
- Turn off auto-sync after loading a backup
- Turn off auto-sync after account switch if you choose to keep local data
Account isolation and private image storage
The cloud uses strict account isolation and private image storage. All access requires authorization from the account owner. Images never receive permanent public URLs, which lowers the risk of direct external access. Protecting your data is our top priority.
4. App Lock
You can set a local app password and enable lock rules:
- Lock on app launch
- Lock after configurable inactivity
This password is handled locally and has no online recovery flow. Please keep it safely.
